Does ps3 support vob files

I have no wish to be locked into what Apple decide is suitable content. Yeah that pretty much sums it up. Every way I turn I seem to hit some limitation in the PS3. I was using PS3MediaServer and I could see subtitles when streamed, but as I said I don't want a streaming solution I might be uncommon in that regard. So my ripping process will likely be a direct copy of the VOB's from disk. So this solution saves me time also, though it does require another device, another remote, another plugpack, etc - I'll chalk that up to my mistake in relying on Sony to get anything right.

It's about the same vintage as the PS3 but so far ahead in terms of compatibility. I'm ripping my discs to MKV files using MakeMKV , which is fast, but a little flakey as it uses loads of memory and isn't very tolerant of a computer without much memory. Presentation in the WDTVLive is no better than the PS3 really - just a simple hierarchy - but the control works well and you don't need too many buttons to find anything.

The idea would be a playlist of video covers, but I'm not complaining. Contact Us VideoHelp Top. All times are GMT The time now is All rights reserved. Latest tool updates. DVDFab Passkey 9. Top Bottom. If it doesn't play with sound, you might try installing AC3 Filter. If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them? Did install the ac3 filters for the heck of it gonna try one real quick before bed has my curiosity peaked. There is a section of the setup options for tversity once it is installed that asks about transcoding, you can choose never always or only when needed, i have it set at only when needed, and i have checked the decrease bitrate if it is too high for my network.

There is also a windows media encouder option that says use direct show for windows media encoding that was turned off by defaut says otherwise ffmpeg will be used If I check the box for using directshow for windows media encoding I have a few options Microsoft MPEG 4 Video Codec 3 Windows Media Video 7 Windows Media Video 8 Windows Media Video 9 Should I turn that on and choose one of those 4? Well I thought maybe by installing that ac3 pack the vob might play thru ps3 with sound if it pulled needed codecs somehow from the ac3 install.

But no luck still no sound, may try some more fiddling tomorrrow once i get some sleep but apparently reading around google and tversity boards and such I am not the only one with this issue of having trouble with sound on the ps3 thru vob files using tversity. I'd think that since AFAIK TVersity uses the host system to render the video before streaming it, if the videos played fine in something like Media Player, it shouldn't have any problem - at least while it's being rendered and broadcast.

I take it you're not having this problem with any other type of video? I did install the tversity codec stuff when the program was installed i believe, and yes no problem playing a standard avi file has sound and a few other types mpg and such all play fine, just those pesky vob's have no sound, and from what I have seen in other posts other forums I am not alone on that, so must be something within tversity heck Idunno but yeah the vob files play fine with sound in nero showtime and in wmp Will check out that ac3acm decoder too, altho i dont exactly understand how tversity handles rendering beyond those few menu options I have mentioned above.

I generally recommend against installing codec packs especially if you have no problems playing videos on a system as it is. I've seen people say not to install the TVersity codec pack - but I have to admit I don't know what's in it, so I can't really conclude it's completely unnecessary. You could have a codec conflict, however, but it doesn't really sound like it. I've been thinking about trying TVersity for a while, but the system I'd have to use it on, while certainly good enough for the task, is a family system NeroHome will transcode a file on the fly to be read by the networked PS3.

And Windows Media Player 11 also has a media sharing option. Good luck. I will give the nero a shot cant hurt at this point to try it, yes i do have the full nero 8 too btw Or found a miracle cure for the TVersity issue yet? I am greatly interested in this topic as am contemplating a PS3 purchase to use mostly as a replacement for my ageing HTPC too slow to play p x encoded video and as a Blu-Ray player now the HD format war is over. It's quite noticeable on a very large screen.

I guess I could convert all of the DVDs to x files with low amounts of compression, but there are quite a few titles and I can't be bothered. HDD space is cheap, my spare time is not As you say, there are similar questions on other forums, but the answers are not yet forthcoming.
